assert(<vVariable> [, <sMessage>])
Description (from LUA 4 Manual: 6.1 Basic Functions)
"Issues an 'assertion failed!' error when its argument <vVariable> is nil. This function is equivalent to the following Lua function:"
function assert (v, m)
	if not v then
		m = m or ""
		error("assertion failed!  " .. m)

<vVariable>: any declared variable.
<sMessage>: optional message to print. The message 'assertion failed!' is used by default.
